Legal deposit copies
According to the Legal Deposit Act, two copies of each produced project must be given to the National Library of Estonia without charge. One copy will remain in the library in Tallinn, the other copy is given to the University of Tartu Library. The customer has the option to choose whether these copies are submitted to the National Library by the customer himself or by Baltic Disc.
Legal deposit copies are required to be submitted by all legal and natural persons and state or local government institutions that produce printed publications, audiovisuals or electronic publications (for example, CD/DVD/BLU-RAY discs) in Estonia.
The purpose of collecting legal deposit copies is to create a comprehensive collection of printed publications, audiovisuals and electronic publications as an important part of the national culture for their bibliographic registration, maintenance of statistical records and making these items available for the need of research and artistic creation. Collecting legal deposit copies shall ensure national storage and protection of printed publications, audiovisuals and electronic publications.
